Surgery
Founded in 1971, the Department of Surgery consists of more than 500 faculty members across six separate campuses. Over the years, the department has undergone significant growth both in programs and its number of faculty members. The department embraces Michigan State University's unique land-grant mission of education, research and service.

Q. In the future, how will patients experience surgery?
A. In many ways, the future is already here, especially at MSU. Here are a couple of examples. Right now we’re working with engineers in the MSU College of Engineering building a robotic arm that will do breast exams in women. This idea will serve a number of purposes. Mainly, it will bring this exam to someone in a remote location who may not have easy access to health care.
