Occupational and Environmental Medicine

The Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in the Department of Medicine has an active research and clinical program to investigate and minimize the adverse health effects of exposures in the home, community and workplace. Current research projects involve work-related asthma, noise-induced hearing loss, asthma mortality, silicosis, chronic beryllium disease, lead toxicity, acute work-related traumatic deaths and farm-related asthma.

The division’s Web site contains information about the occupational disease reporting law, including how to report, copies of quarterly newsletters and annual reports. An elective is available for fourth-year medical students and residents. The elective includes patient care and site visits to workplaces and exposure sites in the community.
